Sugar Grove Police Chief Pat Rollins said the call was in response to a chlorine gas leak, a byproduct of a chemical reaction.

Emergency officials cleared the building of all occupants, noting eight people ended up transported to Delnor Hospital and six went to Mercy Hospital.

Firefighters controlled the chemical release in about two and a half hours. The release ended up confined to the property.

A HazMat team was on the scene conducting testing to make sure the building is safe for employees to return to work.

Producers Chemical hired a company to come in and cleanup the spill.
