2 Injured in Fire at KY Chemical Plant

Firefighters douse a fire at the American Synthetic chemical plant.

Two workers suffered injuries in a fire Wednesday at a chemical plant on Campground Road in Rubbertown, KY.

Firefighters got the call at 6 p.m., but there were no evacuations or alerts for nearby residents. Louisville Metro Emergency Services said the fire had no impact to the community.

The fire started inside one of the buildings and caused damage to the roof of the plant, said Lauren McClure, a member of the public relations team at Michelin, which owns American Synthetic.

She said two employees were injured and taken to a nearby hospital for further evaluation. Those injuries include an injured ankle and a burn, officials said.

People nearby reported seeing a plume of black smoke in the area. There is no word on what was burning or how the fire started.
