An explosion in a gas line at a plant in Little Rock, AR, sent three employees to the hospital Tuesday with non-life threatening injuries.

Emergency responders got the call Tuesday afternoon to Alcoa Corp.’s facility in the Gum Springs area after an explosion in an office area, and the three workers were transported to area hospitals, said Clark County Sheriff Jason Watson.

The explosion appeared to be related to a gas line in the facility, Watson said.

The building caught fire after the explosion, but it was extinguished relatively quickly, said a spokeswoman for the state Department of Emergency Management.

The plant processes and recycles material from aluminum smelters, and Alcoa’s website said 60 people work at the facility.

A company spokesman says the cause of the incident was under investigation.
