4 Burned in Chemical Incident

Four workers in the middle of a maintenance operation ended up injured suffering from burns from a caustic chemical at the Axiall Natrium Facility in Marshall County, WV, Friday.

The injuries occurred when the workers suffered exposure to a caustic soda solution. Two of the workers went to the West Penn Burn Center in Pittsburgh, one ended up treated at a local hospital and another released after treatment at the scene.

There is no word on the severity of the injuries.

Axiall released a statement saying:

“This afternoon during a maintenance operation at the Axiall Natrium facility, four employees were injured when they were accidentally exposed to a caustic soda solution. The employees received on-site medical treatment, with two employees transported to Pittsburgh for further evaluation and treatment, one treated at the local hospital and one released after on-site treatment. Our primary concern is for the well-being of all four employees and providing support for their families during this time.”

Axiall, headquartered in Atlanta, GA, has manufacturing facilities located throughout North America and in Asia.
