A crew inside the plant was doing maintenance on a line, officials said. During the process, they realized there was still some residual gas in the line, and they worked to secure it.

Several people inside the plant began experiencing side effects, and were taken to the hospital to be examined. Their exposure, however, was said to be non life-threatening.

Ammonia dissipates quickly in the atmosphere, and officials say there was no threat to the public.

Firefighters went from room to room in the building to make sure each was safe.
