Hundreds of gallons of ammonia spilled Tuesday at a warehouse in central-city Toledo.

Workers at Chemtrade Logistics, Inc. were moving a container at 10:45 a.m. when it fell from the forklift, officials said.

About 300 gallons of ammonia spilled inside the warehouse, Toledo fire Lt. Matthew Hertzfeld said.

A private contractor will clean up the ammonia. The fire department’s HazMat team opened a water valve to alleviate additional problems in the company’s large mixing tank, Hertzfeld said.

About 10 employees evacuated the building before firefighters arrived. No health issues ended up reported.

The wind dispersed fumes, and an evacuation of nearby homes was not necessary, Hertzfeld said.
