As of 4 p.m. crews were still on-scene fighting the fire, and several other departments were assisting in combating the fire, said Fountain Inn Police Chief Keith Morton.

He said it’s unknown at this time how the fire started, and said arson investigators will be out at the scene checking everything out.

There were no injuries in the incident.

Morton said the fire department’s biggest concern is keeping firefighters hydrated, as well as managing the traffic.

The fire burned an area between buildings, but the side of several buildings was singed.

The fire burned mostly outside where the business takes in scrap plastics, said Fire Chief Ronnie Myers.

Officials said the sprinkler system went off in both buildings, which helped to contain most of the fire outside.

“Once you get plastic burning, it’s very hot. It gets so hot, you can’t put it out with just water. You have to put foam on it to smother the fire. It was a very intense fire,” Myers said.
