A train carrying hazardous chemicals derailed late Thursday morning in Jackson, MS, forcing the Hazardous Materials team to jump into action.
The Canadian National train was hauling nitrogen fertilizer and jumped the tracks at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mill Street near Woodrow Wilson in Jackson, officials said.
Canadian National’s Bob Strong said Hinds County Emergency Management Agency and the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality were working at the scene with vacuum trucks to clean up the nitrogen fertilizer liquid.
In an alert sent to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency, officials determined the spill ended up contained to the rail yard near the CN control tower.
There were no injuries in the incident and the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
