A hazardous materials team is at a Milwaukee manufacturer after a fire ended up fueled by exploding propane tanks.

There were no injuries at Acme Galvanizing on the city’s south side where a two-alarm fire burned Monday morning, said Deputy Fire Chief Terry Lintonen.

Billowing black smoke was visible for miles as the fire burned and destroyed a secondary building on the property. Firefighters were able to keep the blaze from igniting the main building.

Lintonen said the hazardous materials team will continue monitoring the air quality in the neighborhood because of the chemicals at the plant.

Acme Galvanizing specializes in metal coatings.
