Sulzer Metco expanded its portfolio to include cold spray technology equipment – including heaters, powder feeders, guns, and control units.

This expansion enables the company to support applications that require low-temperature, dense coatings for corrosion resistance and other electrical and thermal conductivity applications.

Sulzer Metco acquired all cold spray related assets and activities from CGT Cold Gas Technology GmbH and Aircraft Philipp Ampfing GmbH & Co.KG, Ampfing.

Cold spray technology utilizes metallic powder materials that are accelerated to supersonic velocities by a pressurized and heated gas jet. Then the material plastically deforms and bonds to create a thick and firmly adhered coating. Feedstock materials remain in a solid state because temperatures are kept below their melting points. The result of cold spray is a thick coating that can enhance corrosion resistance as well as electric and thermal conductivity, making it ideal for material restoration, braze joint preparation, near-net-shape fabrication, texturizing of surfaces, and additive manufacturing.
