The Detcon FP-700 Combustible Gas Sensor gained certification for functional safety, ensuring that it meets the functional safety requirements for Safety Integrity Level (SIL) 2 capability per IEC 61508: 2010, said officials at safety certification provider, exida.

“Detcon’s capabilities were confirmed through an extensive certification process that included a Failure Modes, Effects and Diagnostic Analysis (FMEDA),” said John Yozallinas, exida evaluating assessor. “Its mature development process provides the rigor needed to ensure the delivery of products that achieve high levels of functional safety.”

“We continue to choose exida as our certification body because of its technical expertise,” said Bob Masi, Detcon president. “Obtaining an exida certificate gives our customers strong confidence that our products are applicable to safety critical applications.”

Product certification is a growing trend in the industry, as users need to know products can stand up to the challenges safety, and security, solutions provide.

Along those lines, in October exida named the winners of its first Safety Awards 2013.

Awards were for three categories: Sensors, Logic Solvers, and Software products that best demonstrate innovative work and have the ability to play a key role in the continuous journey of making the world a safer place.

The following companies/products earned honors:
• Sensors, and the winner is: Det-tronics’ FlexSonic Acoustic Detector
• Logic Solvers, and the winner is: Emerson Process Management’s DeltaV SIS with Electronic Marshalling
• Software, and the winner is: System Engineering Consultants Co., Ltd.’s RTMSafety
