Detcon earned another functional safety certification, this time for its DM-700 Toxic Gas Sensor.

The Detcon DM-700 Toxic Gas Sensor for functional safety meets the functional safety requirements for Safety Integrity Level (SIL) 2 capability per IEC 61508: 2010, said officials at exida, a safety certification provider for the process industries.

“Detcon’s capabilities were confirmed through an extensive certification process that included the completion of a Failure Modes, Effects and Diagnostic Analysis (FMEDA) and evaluation of proven field history for this unit,” said John Yozallinas, exida evaluating assessor.

“The combination of these assessments demonstrates full compliance with IEC 61508 to the end-user,” he said.

“exida’s technical expertise gave us confidence when choosing them as our certification body,” said Bob Masi, Detcon president. “They have a tough program and completing this certification is a real achievement.”

In July, Detcon also gained SIL 2 capability for its TP-700 hydrogen sulfide MOS gas detector. The device also underwent functional safety assessments by exida and is in compliance with IEC61508: 2010 Parts 1-7.

Detcon designs and manufactures a range of industrial grade gas detection sensors and electronic control systems.
