Fatality at LA Pipe Manufacturer

One worker is dead after an incident at an East Baton Rouge, LA, facility.

Stephen Deggs, 30, a production worker at the facility, died just before 10 a.m. Thursday at pipe manufacturer, Stupp Corporation, off LA 19, according to the coroner’s office. The coroner said a man was taken from the site with serious injuries and later died.

The plant is not releasing any details on the incident, but did say:

“On behalf of all of our employees and the Stupp family, we extend our deepest condolences to Stephen’s family. The company has arranged for counseling to be available to employees who may request it.

“A thorough internal investigation of this incident is ongoing and Stupp is fully cooperating with local authorities as well as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in their reviews of today’s accident.”

Details surrounding the accident are limited at this time. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday morning.

Stupp Corporation produces pipes and other services to transport oil, gas and products, according to the company’s website.
