Fire at NE Pet Food Maker

A fire in a machine motor at the Purina Animal Nutrition plant in Fremont, NE, Nov. 5, forced a call to the local fire department, officials said.

Fremont Rural Fire Department, as well as the Fremont Fire Department, responded to the scene.

Just after 8:30 p.m. Nov. 5, Fremont Rural responded to the Purina Animal Nutrition Plant, 330 E. Cloverly Road, about a small fire. At 8:56 p.m., Fremont Fire Department also responded to the scene.

“Fremont Rural responded to the fire, then they asked us to bring the aerial and squad, along with man power,” said Cpt. Jamie Meyer of the Fremont Fire Department.

The fire ultimately proved to be small and was handled internally, said Land O’Lakes communications manager Brooke Dillon.

“A small fire began in a machine motor at our Fremont Purina Animal Nutrition Plant on Sunday, Nov. 5,” Dillon said. “The fire was quickly put out by plant employees before the fire department arrived.”

There was minimal damage to the area, Dillon said.
