Fire Forces MI Aluminum Plant Evac

An aluminum facility in Holland, MI, evacuated Sunday as firefighters responded to a burning air conditioning unit at the plant.

Firefighters got the call there was a fire in the ceiling of the Benteler Aluminium Systems die shop building at 10:29 a.m. on Sunday.

Dispatchers said staff evacuated the building to escape the flames while Holland fire crews responded to the incident.

Once on scene, firefighters discovered the flames started in an air conditioning unit and by 10:44 p.m., the fire had been extinguished.

According to their website, Benteler Aluminium Systems designs metal based products, systems and solutions in the areas of Automotive, Steel/Tube and Distribution.

There were no injuries in the incident and officials are still investigating what caused the fire.
