An explosion at Republic Steel’s Lorain, OH, plant occurred when workers in the melt shop restarted a furnace shut down over the weekend, company officials said Monday.

The explosion occurred at 8:30 a.m. near East 28th Street and Pearl Avenue. The blast injured four workers, Lorain Ambulance Inc. communications director Rob Dybo said.
