GA Chemical Maker Faces Safety Fines

First Source Worldwide LLC is facing $256,088 in fines for several workplace safety hazards that put employees at risk of injury, said officials at the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

Following an inspection of the company’s Dalton, GA, facility, OSHA issued willful citations for failing to install a fall protection system, and develop and implement a written permit-required confined-space program.

The company also ended up cited for several serious and other-than-serious violations, including failing to develop safety procedures when performing equipment maintenance and servicing; failing to train and evaluate forklift operators; failing to ensure employees have proper personal protective equipment; and failing to install machine guards on equipment.

“The hazards identified put workers at risk of serious injury,” said OSHA Atlanta Area Office Director Christi Griffin. “Employers must follow required safety practices to protect worker safety and health.”

The company primarily manufactures tailor-made chemicals and colorants that require tight specifications and the high levels of quality and consistency, according to the company website.
