Authorities said the fire started before 6 a.m. when a high-pressure line ruptured and caught fire.

Officials told 40 people living within 1 mile of the fire to leave their homes.

“We went door to door, notifying people that they should leave the area until we figured out what was going on, and then we released the people back to the area about two hours later,” Mercer County Public Safety Director Frank Jannetti said.

Another Hilcorp Energy gas well caught fire in August. That fire burned for about three hours.

There were no injuries in either incident.
