Two men died following an industrial accident late Thursday morning at a Wichita, KS-area chemical plant.

The incident occurred just before noon at Occidental Chemical Corporation. The two victims fell from a boom truck, said Sedgwick County Sheriff Lt. Lin Dehning.

“It was some sort of a boom truck, but other than that I really can’t go any further on the type of equipment,” Dehning said.

Both men were pronounced dead at the scene. Their names were not immediately available pending notification of next of kin.

Dehning said the men were contract workers and not employed by the plant.

“Preliminary investigation on the scene indicates a failure of the contractors’ mechanical equipment,” he said.

Dehning added there was no chemical release at the plant and no threat to the public.

“This is being looked at not only by the sheriff’s office but also OxyChemical and also the contractor, all in conjunction with each other,” he said.
