Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station in Plymouth, MA, has been off line since Monday as crews take advantage of a storm-related shutdown to complete maintenance work.

The station initially shut down in advance of Monday’s snow storm, which reached blizzard strength in Plymouth, but spokesman Patrick O’Brien said plant officials decided to keep it off line so crews could perform work that can only occur when it is not in operation.

O’Brien said federal regulations prohibit him from saying when the plant will power up again.

Entergy, the company that operates the 680-megawatt plant, drew fierce criticism last year after a partial loss of offsite power to the station during a January snow storm triggered an automatic shutdown.

Entergy said it will permanently close the plant by 2019.
