ADCO Services, Inc., is facing a hearing about a violation of failing to ensure a radiation safety officer performed the required duties and functions for radiation protection, as required of all NRC radioactive materials license holders.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) identified the apparent violation while conducting a routine inspection last November, at the licensee’s facility in Tinley Park, IL. Inspection activities included a review of the licensee’s radiation protection program.

The purpose of the pre-decisional enforcement conference is to discuss the apparent violation, obtain additional information from the company and understand what corrective actions have been taken or planned.

The NRC will specifically discuss how the corrective actions will be more effective than actions taken in response to a similar violation in 2013 and understand the company’s future plans since the NRC license has just been revoked for failure to pay annual fees.

No decision on the final safety significance or additional NRC actions will occur at the conference. The NRC’s final determination will be made public.
