The headlines appear all over: “Temp worker injured in industrial accident.”

There are plenty of temporary workers in the industry today who are just as important to keeping a process moving forward as full time workers.

Yet, sometimes they end up on the short end of the stick when they don’t get proper safety training. That is when accidents and injuries start to pile up.

To help alleviate the health and safety shortcomings or temporary workers, a new video is out by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Assistant Secretary Dr. David Michaels emphasizing the shared responsibility of staffing firms and host employers to ensure the safety and health of temporary workers.

Joining Dr. Michaels in the video is Stephen Dwyer, general counsel of the American Staffing Association, an OSHA Alliance partner.

Dwyer said staffing agencies should clearly communicate with host employers to make sure all parties understand their safety responsibilities.

You can view the video on the U.S. Department of Labor’s YouTube channel or OSHA’s webpage on Protecting Temporary Workers.
