Paint Oven Fire Forces Evac

A fire in the Mann+Hummel Purolator paint curing oven in Fayetteville, NC, forced employees to evacuate the facility last Thursday, officials said.

The fire was reported just before 11 a.m. at the plant as employees evacuated as fire personnel from the city and county responded.

Cumberland Road Fire Chief Steven Parrish said a paint curing oven caught fire and caused about $2,500 in damage.

The fire ended up confined to one smokestack. Parrish said no employees or firefighters were injured in the incident.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Cumberland Road Fire Department and Mann+Hummel Purolator.

Purolator Filters is among the largest private employers in Cumberland County. The Fayetteville plant makes oil, air, fuel and cabin filters for light- and heavy-duty vehicles.
