An industrial accident at a plastics facility in Helena, AL, left a 45-year-old worker dead, officials said.

Eva Saenz, 45, of Alabaster, was working at ABC Polymer Industries LLC when the accident occurred Aug. 16, according to Shelby County Coroner Lina Evans.

“It just appears that she was working next to the rollers and bent down to cut some of the plastic, I believe, with a box cutter and actually got pulled up into the rollers,” Evans said.

Saenz was pronounced dead at the scene from blunt force injuries, the coroner said.

The police and fire department from Helena responded after a 911 call at 6:41 p.m. from the company.

“Upon arrival, responders found a female employee that has been pulled into an industrial machine. Fire medics determined that the victim was deceased and the Shelby County Coroner’s office was notified,” the police department reported.

Police referred further questions to a fire department spokesman who was not available for comment Aug. 17.

ABC Polymer makes extruded polypropylene products, including microsynthetic and macrosynthetic fibers for concrete. Other products include bulk bags, fibrillated yarns and synthetic snow. The company also makes shot bags used by explosive manufacturers to package blasting agents.
