Rosemount Radar Transmitter SIL 3 Rated

The Rosemount 5300 Series Guided Wave Radar Transmitter gained certification for functional safety, ensuring that it meets the functional safety requirements for Safety Integrity Level (SIL) 3 capability per IEC 61508: 2010.

“Rosemount’s capabilities were confirmed through an extensive certification process that included the completion of a Failure Modes, Effects and Diagnostic Analysis (FMEDA),” said Dave Butler, evaluating assessor at exida, an industry functional safety certification provider for the process industries. “Their mature development process provides the rigor needed to ensure the delivery of products that achieve high levels of functional safety.”

“We were confident in choosing exida as our certification body for their technical expertise in functional safety certification,” said Dajana Prastalo, manager product approvals at Rosemount Tank Radar. “They have a rigorous process that gives our customers a solid confidence that our products are applicable to safety critical applications.” Rosemount is a business unit of Emerson Process Management.

Emerson was also an award winner for exida’s first Safety Awards 2013.

There were three categories for which exida gave an award: Sensors, Logic Solvers, and Software. They were for products that best demonstrate innovative work and have the ability to play a key role in the continuous journey of making the world a safer place.

The following companies/products earned the honors:
• Sensors, and the winner is: Det-tronics’ FlexSonic Acoustic Detector
• Logic Solvers, and the winner is: Emerson Process Management’s DeltaV SIS with Electronic Marshalling
• Software, and the winner is: System Engineering Consultants Co., Ltd.’s RTMSafety
