Middle managers are often stuck between a rock and a hard place. They often rise from working “on the line,” but then find themselves caught in the middle when workforce reductions take place.
With that in mind, there is now a new program in place that can help employed workers that were formerly technical, but have moved into middle management positions and want to regain their technical edge.
The SANS (Institute) Workplace Revitalization Scholarship Program can bring back that edge. As organizations reduce the number of middle managers in information security positions, but want to retrain employees, the initial program will train in digital forensics. Up to 15 scholarships are available and offer reduced tuition. The deadline for scholarship applications is August 31. Scholarships will occur on a rolling basis of first qualified application received, first served. There is a $25 application fee.
If accepted, the applicant will receive a code that will allow them to register for OnDemand access to SANS Security Essentials (SEC 401) and will provide one opportunity to complete the Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC) GSEC Certification for $750.
Security Essentials gives a wide knowledge of security including hands on familiarity with Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems. Applicants that pass and earn their GIAC GSEC certification CERT by November 15 may ask for and receive a code that will allow them to register for SANS Computer Forensic Essentials (FOR 408) at a live conference event for $1,500, this price includes one opportunity to complete the GIAC GCFE exam.
Applicants who complete their GCFE certification by April 15, 2011 may ask for and receive a code that will allow them to register for SANS Computer Forensic Investigations and Incident Response (FOR 508) at a live conference event for $1,500, this price includes one opportunity to complete the GIAC GCFA.
The application is available by request, simply send email to stephen@sans.edu, or click on the SANS Workplace Revitalization Scholarship Program.
