TX Pecan Processing Plant Ruined

A massive fire may have started near dryers at Leonard’s Big Valley Pecan Farm processing plant early Saturday in Goldthwaite, TX. Damage estimates are coming in around $1 million.

The fire destroyed the plant and 100,000 pounds of pecans, Goldthwaite Fire Chief David Schwartz said Saturday.

Firefighters from Goldthwaite, San Saba and Mulllins battled the flames for about three hours after the fire broke out at around 3 a.m. Saturday the plant at 450 County Road 417.

Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the massive blaze, Schwartz said, but the company’s manager said it appears the fire started near dryers inside the building.

There were no injuries in the incident. Schwartz called it a big loss to the area.
