There was a large vapor leak at a Williams Pipeline Mercaptan Station in Sumner, WA, Wednesday.
East Pierce Fire crews said it appeared to be two pressure relief valves activating and venting some type of product, likely natural gas, at a large rate at the Williams Pipeline Mercaptan Station.
East Valley Highway East ended up closed from Cascade Water in the 2100 block to Log Cabin at the 2700 block while crews assessed the situation.
The leak ended up shut down at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday and East Valley Highway East has since reopened.
No evacuations were necessary as there are not many homes in the area. Businesses ended up advised to shelter in place.
