Worker Dies at WI Lumber Incident

A Tigerton, WI, man died as a result of an industrial accident Thursday morning at the Tigerton Lumber Co., officials said.

Scott Spiegel, 46, died at 8 a.m. while working with logging equipment at the business on Cedar Street, according to a statement from the Shawano County Sheriff’s Office.

Tigerton EMS and Rescue responded to the incident, however, the man was later pronounced dead at the scene by the Shawano County coroner.

Spiegal got stuck in a machine that peels off bark from the logs as he tried to clear out a jam, a co-worker said.

Spiegal, who worked at the lumber mill for six years, was a hard worker and always came to work an hour early, the co-worker said.

The incident remains under investigation by the Shawano County coroner and sheriff’s office, and the Occupational Safety & Health Administration.
