2 Workers Hurt after LA Chem Plant Leak

There was a chlorine leak at a Geismar, LA, chemical plant that sent two workers to the hospital, officials said.

Officials got the call at 5 a.m. saying there was the smell of chlorine at Air Liquide facility on Highway 30. Crews were able to contain the leak in under an hour.

Five workers were evaluated by medical personnel at the scene, and two of them were taken to the hospital for treatment.

An investigation is underway to determine the source of the leak.

“At no time was the public ever in danger during the release,” said Ascension Parish Sheriff Bobby Webre.
