Exeter fire officials got the call to the facility at 18 Industrial Drive Monday, July 27 shortly before 4 p.m. following an explosion involving stored titanium in the 3D printing machine.
Upon arrival, firefighters reported workers evacuated the large manufacturing facility. Upon investigation, first responders found one victim with burn injuries and a reported fire and explosion of titanium in a commercial 3D printing machine. The manufacturing area had a smoke condition with an active fire in one machine.
Due to the active titanium fire in them and the compromised containers, Sig Sauer’s safety team and the Exeter Fire Department removed both and put them in sand away from the building. The incident was under control three hours later.
The injured worker suffered burn injuries and ended up transported via helicopter to a Boston-area hospital, according to Exeter’s fire department.
The Newington, NH-based gun maker said it was grateful for local first responders who quickly contained the blaze.
“We evacuated our employees and are grateful for the local first responders for quickly containing the fire and assisting our team members,” Sig Sauer said in a statement. “We will examine what caused this incident and right now we are focused on assisting our team.”
The Exeter Fire Department said it is also continuing to investigate the cause of the explosion.
In 2025, an explosion and fire broke out inside Sig Sauer’s ammunition facility in Arkansas. However, no one suffered an injury in that incident, according to media reports.
