Firefighters got the call to Santolubes Manufacturing LLC on West Croft Circle at 6:45 p.m. on March 29. Officials at the scene said 40 personnel from at least 10 different local departments responded to the blaze.
Upon arrival, crews found a fire in the plant and began working to put it out. Shortly before 10 p.m. crews had the fire contained, but were still fighting it in multiple locations around the plant.
Santolubes makes synthetic fluids, lubricants and greases, according to the company website.
Officials haven’t determined the cause of the fire, but said various components of the facility and it’s process were involved in the fire.
There was a chemical product involved in the fire, but officials said it is a non-toxic powder used for plastic and paper products. Crews monitored air quality and water runoff as a precaution.
People in the area around the plant may smell a burning smell, but there is no danger to the community, officials said.
