Gas Leak Forces Evac in MN

Houses ended up forced to evacuate in Bloomington, MN, Thursday morning after a major gas leak, officials said.

The gas leak was reported at 9:30 a.m. Thursday and Centerpoint Energy crews were monitoring gas levels in the air as the natural gas dispersed and drifting to the northeast.

Centerpoint said a valve malfunctioned on a gas line.

Officials evacuated one apartment building and two blocks of homes. School remained in session at nearby Kennedy High School, which didn’t register a gas reading.

All residents returned home and the street reopened by noon.
