Video footage captured from a Walmart parking lot and shared online showed thick plumes of black smoke before an explosion caused a huge fireball to erupt into the sky. A piece of a tank can be seen flying through the sky.
Emergency personnel got the call Monday, August 17, at 8:33 a.m. to the explosion at the Explorer Pipeline facility, according to the Glenpool Police Department.
Explorer Pipeline said in a statement on social media a lightning strike caused the explosion. The company later said three tanks containing natural gasoline ended up involved in the ensuing fire. Moreover, ntural gasoline is a liquid fuel used in the production of gasoline and other products.
On Tuesday, the company shared another statement that said there were no injuries in the incident and the fire is no longer actively burning.
