Three Hurt in Texas Oil Field Blast

An investigation is continuing after an oil field explosion in East Texas injured three people Saturday afternoon, according to the Gregg County Sheriff’s Office.

Fire officials and Gregg County deputies responded shortly before 1 p.m. to the 1000 block of Cox Dairy Road where officials said three men suffered injuries in the explosion while “welding on a pipe believed to be clear of hydrocarbons,” officials said.

Three individuals contracted by Exxon/Mobil: Kenneth Shahan, 54, of Center, Brent Ellison, 26, of Hawkins and Antonio Exner, 25, of Hawkins suffered injuries during the explosion.

Shahan, who suffered second-degree burns and injuries from the blast, and Ellison, who suffered third-degree burns and other injuries, ended up going to Parkland Hospital in Dallas.

Exner, who suffered minor injuries, went to Good Shepherd Medical Center, where he received treatment and then released.
