The rescue took place on Atlantic Street around 11 a.m. at the former Harbor Station Power Plant demolition site, according to city spokesperson Shawnna White.
In the incident, a massive piece of debris fell during demolition work near the landmark “candy-cane” smokestack. A large piece of debris fell on the cab of the excavator which then pinned the worker inside the cab.
After over two hours of extraction, emergency personnel were able to free the worker and he ended up transported to Bridgeport Hospital.
White said the victim became trapped inside the excavator after “a large piece of equipment” fell on it. She said the victim was conscious and alert at the scene.
Fire and police assisted with the rescue, White said.
