Two Hurt in PA Steel Plant Blast

Two people suffered injuries in an explosion April 27 at a Beaver County, PA, steel plant, according to a supervisor at the county’s emergency dispatch center.

Emergency responders got the call 10:49 a.m. to Damascus Steel Casting Co. at 1023 Pittsfield Alley in New Brighton, PA, after an explosion at the facility.

One of the victims received severe burns in the incident and was flown by helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian.

The other victim, who the dispatcher said may have been injured in a fall, ended up transported by ambulance to Heritage Valley Beaver Hospital.

Founded in 1906, Damascus Steel Casting Company provided manganese grade steel castings for wear resistant applications and also makes heat-resistant carbon steel and modified stainless grades to serve the heat treating, power, chemical and process industries. It also makes wear-resistant applications for the power, rail, material handling, crushing and mining industries.
